Emma and I were great friends at Highland Middle School and LHS. We had way too much fun together...from school dances, sleepovers, playing middle school volleyball, club volleyball, and high school volleyball...we were always laughing and joking around (hence all of these silly pictures). We spent tons of down time together off the court talking about life, taking selfies, listening to trendy emo music of the time like Taking Back Sunday and Dashboard Confessional screaming the lyrics and laughing. She was such a great listener, and such a great friend. I liked hanging out with Emma more than actually playing sports...probably the only reason I played so long. Volleyball going into Senior year got too serious for me, and I ended up quitting and doing the musical, as she continued to amaze anyone who watched her. She inspired me on the court, and I will never forget her leadership, commitment, and drive to be the best player she could be. This is when we fell out of touch, and I am heartbroken we did. It makes sense we both ended up moving to Colorado, probably because we both longed for a more laidback lifestyle outdoors. I wish I knew she was there too, I can picture us hiking and summiting mountains together catching up on all the years past. I am so thankful Emma was in my life, and I will never forget our fun memories growing up. My heart and condolences goes out to her family, siblings, and friends. I hope these throwback photos and memories bring you joy.

Emma was a wonderful friend of mine. We had so many meaningful times together. She was always there for me and just a beautiful soul. She introduced me to garden state (which we watched hundreds of times together). She introduced me to great music we enjoyed a lot together. I feel blessed to have been a part of your life. I will never forget you.

I can't believe this... Emma and I got up to a lot back in HS.... Namely stealing a grocery cart from jewel osco and pushing each other down the libertyville streets at 3am... Laughing... Wondering how much trouble we were going to be in the morning. We used to share a notebook full of quotes from "emotional" songs that were popular in 2004. I always felt she was my "deep" friend and when we lost touch I felt she was off to truly great things. I am so saddened by this. There is no doubt in my mind she had an unreal impression on this world and the people in it. I know she did for me.

Emma,
My heart aches right now. I badly wish this wasn’t true. Since high school we were always there for each other in the good and bad times. I will always remember how you turned every situation into a positive one and would find laughter in just about anything. You never judged anyone. You had so much love for your family. Especially your brother and sister. Many of our phone conversations were about them. I wish we could of had one more phone call. Love you Emma always.
I will miss you and cherish all of our memories.
Love, Gaby

Dearest Angel Emma,
When I entered this family, this tribe, you were 10 years old. The first and oldest of all of the cousins, and the eldest of two younger siblings. I was in awe of this huge clan. I remember seeing your smiling face and the joy you showed to every cousin that came along after, and there were plenty. Picking them up, holding their hands, talking to them. Making them feel important. SMILING! That huge beautiful smile. It was inspiring to see, even as an adult far older. You were wise beyond your years.
I don’t pray, but I WILL pray that we can all lean on each other a little more, and find the comfort that we so badly need. I pray that all of the cousins can find their way, talk deeply to one another, check in often, and be selfless like you, lifting each other up.
I know if there were any one thing you would ask of us, just one thing, it would be this. To emulate your character, your endless love, and your selflessness. To support each other in darkness and in light, sadness and joy. To come together more often and hug more tightly.
I will miss you and I will not forget you and what you stood for.
Love, Aunt Amy

We cherish the times we spent with you. You were a beacon of light and hope for all of us but especially, Wendy and Scout. You made those two feel important and valued ALWAYS. I have such vivid memories of Scout wanting to see you immediately after you'd win a volleyball games and vivid memories of you patiently trying to teach Wendy how to volleyball serve. I thank you for your overflowing kindness to us and our kids. I am forever proud of you and we cherish you for being you and vow to remember you always.

Emma-Jemma -- my first grandchild! -- I loved your piano playing at Christmas in nursing homes and at your grandmother's Christmas dinner. Thrilled to watch your volleyball, including all the victories, in large part due to your outstanding defense and fantastic serving. Loved your double-parking skills in Chicago on Wabash, so Nonnie could run into Skechers to purchase my favorite black & white sneakers -- which I'm wearing today! And in Paris, you were our personal guide and made the city come alive for all of us! Loved dearly in life, you will be forever mourned in death. XOXOXO -Nonnie

Emma, our hearts are broken and our spirits shattered. We love you so much and miss you more today than we know how to share. We are devastated to be without you, but are hopeful as we remember the joy you brought to us all.
You’ve brightened and enriched our lives with your kindness, your beautiful smile, your fierce determination, your energy and your love. And as the first of twenty-two grandchildren on one side of your extended family, Emma, you’ve set the bar very high! All of us have taken so much pride in you — we are quick to tell a story, share a memory, celebrate your generosity and cherish our time with you. Your warmth and compassion are a model for all of us. Your loyalty is unmatched. Your enduring love for your brother, sister, parents and extended family has warmed their hearts and gives them solace now. And, in the most selfless act of love, you’ve brought us all together. We think about you as we try to be better family members and friends. But, most of all, we miss you.
Emma, we will love you and cherish you until the end of our days here, when we will see you again. Though our time together here has passed, we know we will be together for eternity. Think of us, pray for us, and give us a little good luck. God Bless you.
With much love,
Your family
