Fran was a dear, dear friend whom I will miss terribly. A kind, thoughtful, always worrying about you, funny lady. I used to kid her for being this Jewish mama. Fran was a "Mensch". A caring, loving mother, grandmother, sister. Her family was everything.
I will miss our impromptu coffee get together at Pete's coffee house or Starbucks. An hour of chatting, sharing the latest news, reminiscing, critiquing the new buildings being built, the hour turned into 4 or 5 and it was time for soup and salad at Panera's.
We shared many wonderful moments. The time we were to head for Italy but didn't get there because 9/11 happened. It was disappointing, but we understood, so we headed to Vail and enjoyed our great mountains, having lunch, and gelato. In 2007 we headed to the U.K. touring the English Gardens and as luck would have it, it was the opening of the Chelsea Flower Show. We had a wonderful time.
Our interests in architecture, design, horticulture, botanicals, textiles, art history played a lot into our 4-5 hr coffee chats. Because our interests were so similar, it made our visits to the Art Museum, Denver Botanical Garden so much more. Her knowledge of these subjects added so much to my enjoyment, education, and experience.
We also found that some of the Jewish dishes handed down by her dear mother were some of the dishes I grew up with such as "Noodle Pudding". Noodle Pudding? What is that? Only to find out it was one of my family's stable foods, except we called it "Nudelauflauf".
I know my dear friend will always be near. I will think of her when looking at a building and wonder "why" is it built that way! Our favorite saying was, they didn't ask us!
Fran always saw the good side of everything. It is an honor to have known her and am grateful for our friendship. Love you, Fran.
My heartfelt sympathy to all her loved ones.
