My Great Great Grandma, oh boy the skip-Bo queen.
One thing my grandma was totally known for was her little smile while playing skip-Bo. I was about five or six when we were playing skip-Bo actually my first time playing skip- Bo. I have a little advice if you would ever play skip-Bo with my Grandma DO NOT MESS WITH HER. Don't even think about messing with grandma oh boy she will catch you red handed and when she did catch you she would give you this little smile like she was just busting inside giggling. Anyway, I learned a lesson that day to not even think about trying to cheat or she will give you that little smile and say "not uh."
I also remember one day she slept at our house and she took out her dentures and said she looked like a witch at night time and she started laughing like a witch and wow I would just laugh like crazy and she would laugh with me.
I'm totally going to miss my grandma and I know she will miss me and I know she is looking down at me with that little smile.

My Grandma, WOW!, Where to begin, it would take the rest of my lifetime to try and put all the wonderful memories I have into words.
She was a lady who was well loved and respected in every community she ever resided in. She was not only a character but she HAD character.
When I was young I could not wait for summer to come so that I could spend them with her out on the farm. She taught me how to work hard and take pride in everything, but at the same time how to do it with Fun & Flare.
She taught me how to make my first apple pie from scratch and that was only the beginning.
As you can imagine growing up my brothers and I were no angels, especially my brothers. But grandma had the patience of a saint. Which is why at an early age, my brothers and I learned that the last thing we ever wanted to do was disappoint the ones we loved and the ones who loved you, and grandma was one of those people.
She taught us to straighten up & fly right, as she would say. She believed a persons character was defined in their words. She would say " Say what you Mean & Mean what you Say" A quality I try to incorporate into my everyday life..
Here is another thing you may not be aware of, the fact that my Grandma is the SKIP BO QUEEN, she loved playing that card game and was always up for a friendly challenge. But if you had any designs on cheating, well, you had better think twice because she would have none of that. She enjoyed winning FAIR & SQUARE so she could giggle that little giggle of hers and if you were lucky you could even catch a glimpse of her doing the dippsey doodle all the while flashing a winning smile (PRICELESS) just like my Grandma, MY BEST FRIEND FOREVER!
Love Always,
Naree Culver

Great Grandma Dawn:
We have shared so many memories it is hard to pick and choose the ones to share today. I know she was in her 70's when I was born and it seemed like she never aged a day from when she held me as a baby. Just like her seemingly eternal physical appearance she was the most genuine and wonderful lady I have ever met in my life. As a young boy of about 6-9 I remember going to the farm on a Saturday and we would go the SHARE program where I would carry the groceries to the car for the elderly and sometimes earn a quarter for my labor. After we did that we would go to June's store and I would pick out some candy or a toy. Sometimes I was able to bring a friend along and we would sharpen sticks like swords and go "hunting" on the farm grounds. It was a magical place where we would go to play Skip-Bo and learn how to cook from scratch in the kitchen. The farm house even had "secret passages" in the basement where we could explore and I would play with my late Great Grandfathers relics up in the attic.
When I was a little bigger it was the place where I could ride my only dirt bike, shoot my blowgun, help burn trash, and tinker with automobiles in the little shack that was the auto shop. It had a pit in it so you could get under the car instead of lifting it. I remember helping Grandma in the garden and with the chores and that earned me my first can of chewing tobacco and O'Doules beer. She made me feel like such a big man even when I was still just a young and moldable teenager. Sundays were always the best! Grandma would make her famous waffles and sizzlelean, and Uncle John would bring the donuts. The guys would work on their cars and watch racing in the morning and we would watch the Broncos in the afternoon. We would all wash up for Sunday lunch and then have dessert before we all headed out. I have some of my fondest memories when I was with Grandma. Especially when we would gather around the table at night time (after wheel of fortune of course) and play Skip-Bo while we ate snacks and she would drink her Chivas Regal Scotch and water. I was allowed to have O'Doules when I was around twelve and then real beer as I got closer to sixteen. I can say with confidence that I never had a disappointing time at my Grandmothers. It wasn't always fun and games, but I learned a whole lot from her about life in general. She grew up during the great depression and instilled into me the importance of not wasting anything.
Later in life when I was grown up we would go visit her in her house in the town of Strasburg and then in the assisted living home as well. Through it all she never lost a beat in her mind! She was the crossword queen and was always battling the other seniors in Skip-Bo. Even when we saw her at her 100th Birthday she was eternally youthful in spirit, but her body was starting to give way. I could only be so lucky as to have such a long life with as good of health as she. I just want to honor her memory by the way that I live my life and how I raise my children. I love you Grandma Dawn! You will be missed!
Love Always,
Your great grandson (little Ricky)

I was fortunate enough to meet Dawn Culver when she lived out in Byer. She was the coolest lady ever. Her grandaughter, Naree, is my best friend and housemate now in TN and I heard so many wonderful things about her over the years. It is so sad for us still on earth to let her go but she is now with all her other family and friends that she has missed- and have missed her. She is with the angels. God bless.
