Obituary of Lillian Katzman
Lillian Katzman, 96, of Aurora, passed away peacefully on March 25th, 2012 at Shalom Cares, where she lived for 15 years. Lillian was born in New York City on January 20th, 1916. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Goldstein, two granddaughters, Jennifer Jones and Deborah Betson, two great grandsons, Oliver and Alex Jones, all of Colorado, and siblings Gertrude Kasle of Sarasota Florida and David Klepper of Israel. Lillian was the private assistant to W.E.B. DuBois for 6 years before becoming a special education teacher in the New York City. She moved to Denver in the late 1970's to be with her daughter. In Denver, she was active in Democratic politics and served on the Aurora Commission for the Elderly for 7 years. After moving to Shalom Cares, she enjoyed reading and playing bridge. She wrote book reviews for the Resident's Newsletter for many years. Lillian will be missed for her kind and loving spirit, her sense of humor and her generous nature. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to either the Arapahoe County Democratic Party or Shalom Cares in gratitude for all the excellent care provided over many years. Graveside service, Wednesday, March 28, 2012, 11:30am, Mount Nebo Memorial Park.
